Xbox Dispatching for PC Players

Info
titleXbox and PC instancing
Xbox and PC instancing issues work the same while on rescues, once the Xbox specific settings issues are resolved

...

One main difference between PC and Xbox, is that the Xbox friend list is across all games played and is independent from those games.  This has advantages and disadvantages.  The biggest advantage is that a rat does not normally need to be friends with a client to see/verify their current location in game.  If a rat states that the system’s client is confirmed or different than reported at the beginning of a rescue, it does not mean they are already fr+ with the client, just that they’ve checked the client’s profile and hopefully already sent the required request to follow them as a friend (the client will still need to do the same).

Tip
titleXbox Friends

All Xbox games use the same friend system, managed through Xbox live. For most Xbox players, they're already familiar with how to send a friend invite. Unless they're a brand new Xbox player it isn't necessary to give them instructions on how to send a friend invite.

Info

If the client is AUS/NZ or we're otherwise unable to instance with them, have the client submit a support ticket to FDev stating that they contacted us and we were unable to instance. In the past FDev support have refueled the client when we were unable to

Xbox Specific Terminology

Xbox Party Chat (party+) - An app integrated into Xbox that is separate from any game and allows voice chat for up to 16 players.  Because the app is integrated into Xbox it doesn’t require any players to be in a game.  It is separate from any in game comms and is not an indicator of connectivity between the rat and client, nor does it affect instancing in game.  It’s not required to start an Xbox party, and is at the discretion of the rat and client to use a party for comms.  The benefit to an Xbox party is that there can be voice comms with the client allowing for quicker responses, and every Xbox ships with a headset so communication is possible more often than not.

Warning
titleXbox Parties

Xbox parties are independent of the game, and provide no clues on how communications or instancing will work. They are good for communicating with the client, but let dispatch know if you're going to handle in game or just use the party to help the client if needed. Make sure that the client keeps paying attention to IRC and keep focused on the rescue until the client is safe.

Ideal Xbox Rescue Process

info
Tip
titleFriend Requests on Xbox

The Xbox rescue process is the same as PC rescues, with one difference, the Xbox Rat MUST send a friend request to the client

. Adding someone as a friend on Xbox makes you a follower of the other person. It's not until both parties follow each other, that it's a true friend relationship and FR+ can be reported.

It’s best to do this as early as possible in the rescue because it can be used to confirm the client’s location sooner and it may help with receiving notifications when the client adds the rat as a friend (unconfirmed).

  • Client calls ratsignal

  • Rat calls jumps and is assigned to the case

  • Rat adds client as friend (favorite)

    • Verify client’s profile is online

    • Verify client’s system

  • Client adds rat as friend

  • Client invites rat to wing

  • Client turns on wing beacon

  • Rat engages wingman navlock and flies to client's beacon

  • Rat rescues client

Tip
titleXbox Common Issues

The two most common causes for issues on Xbox are below. It's good to make sure these are resolved early.

  1. Client's Online Privacy and Safety Settings are not set to adult default
    • If a rat who isn't friends with the client can't see information on the client's profile (such as friends), this is probably an issue and can affect the comms contacts
    • The best way to check for this, is for the assigned rat(s) to manually add the client as their friend as soon as they're assigned. If they check the client's profile and don't see profile information, they should notify dispatch to correct the issue
  2. Client's Profile is set to offline
    • Once the Privacy and Safety setting are resolved, if the client is still appearing offline, this is probably the issue and will interfere with the comms contacts
