 IRC Nicknames are registered through the webpage, NOT nickserv, as on normal networks. When you log on to the Fuel Rats website, you are presented with a menu on the left hand side where you can add IRC nicknames. Important Note: These guides assume you are using the status window of IRC, and NOT any chat channels. The TechRats recommend to always use the main status channel when inputting passwords into IRC, just in case you forget a "/"! To register your first nickname: (DO THIS WITH A PLAIN NICKNAME WITHOUT ANY [TAGS]) - Log on to the FuelRats website. (Ensure that you have your CMDR(s) claimed)
- On the left hand menu, you will see the IRC nickname registration box. Register your nicknames there. Include variations, such as YourNick[PC] or YourNick[Dispatch], but also ensure that you have a main nick without any tagsClick on the "Add" button.
- Enter your main nick (one that doesn't have any tags in it) into the first popup, click "Add". Input a password for this nickname and click "Register" to finish the registration of your first nick.
- Log on to IRC. Ensure your nick is the same nick you just registered. (You can use "/Nick <Nick>" to change nicknames!)
- Once you change to your nickname (or you logged in under it), NickServ . Nickserv will ask you to identify. Use "/msg nickserv identify <your password> as normal" to identify yourself.
- Group the nicks by switching to each of them and then issuing the command /msg nickserv group <main nick> <password>. You must register all nicknames you use on the API to ensure the services associate your nickname correctly with your rat.
- Make sure you see a message along the lines of "ratname.rat.fuelrats.com is now your displayed host". "ratname" and "rat" will be different for each person. If you don't see this message, refer to the "Check your vhost" tip below!
To register all other subsequent nicknames: (Such as Rat[PC] or Rat[Work]) - Ensure you have first fully registered your nick with the instructions above.
- Set your nick to the nickname you wish to register using "/Nick <Nick>".
- Use "/msg nickserv group <Main Nickname> <Main Nickname Password>" to group the nick with your main nick.
- Make sure you see a message like: "-NickServ- You are now in the group of ratname."
- Go back to the FuelRats website, and click the "Add" button again.
- Put in the nickname that you just grouped with your main nick into the first dialog, and click "Add" just like before.
- The dialog should tell you that the nickname is already registered. Input the SAME password as your main nick, and click "Authenticate"
- Repeat these steps (1-7) for each extra nick you want to register. (Up to 16)

| Some clients support identification through SASL, which the Fuel Rats IRC network supports. Set this up with your username and password, and you will automatically identify when connecting. We also support SSL key fingerprints. If you set your client up with a SSL certificate, connect to the IRC server using the secure port (6697) and issue the command /msg nickserv cert add. Nickserv should report the certificate as added, and you will automatically identify when connecting. You can add multiple SSL certificates to Nickserv. |
