PC Planetary Rescues - Horizons Not Required

...

The safest way to perform planetary rescues is to have the client log in to a 1.5 version of the game, which will give them the option to teleport into orbit.  Once there, the client can be performed normally even by non-Horizons players.

Limpets cannot get under craft that are landed to refuel them, and if a client attempts to lift-off and runs out of fuel they will crash back into the planet.

Xbox Planetary Rescues

On Xbox, there is no way to load the non-Horizons version of the game.  It has been tested unsuccessfully, but it may be possible to delete the Horizons DLC and follow the same procedure as on PC for the non-Horizons version., so a different process is required.  It is possible if the client has enough o2 remaining to locate them on a planet and to manually flip them over using another ship, allowing fuel limpets to connect and transfer fuel.  Gather as much information from the client about their location on the planet prior to having them log in for a visual location fix (unless they have a screenshot of their location).  Once the location is determined, the rats should fly as close as possible to the last known location and prepare for the rescue.

For the actual rescue, the rat ships are divided into two groups.  The first group consists of two ships and will flip over client.  For this, ships with long, thin noses are ideal such as the Anaconda or Python so that they can get under the hull of the client's ship.  These two ships should approach the front or rear of the client's ship, so that when they flip the client's ship over they aren't preventing the fuel limpet from attaching.  The third rat ship has the task of launching the limpet.  A video demonstrating this process is here.  Note that the client logged out of the game with 4:48 of o2 remaining when they contacted us (this is also an example of wingless instancing):
