Planetary Rescues

...

Because a fuel limpet requires a minimum of 50m underneath a ship in order to travel and attach, it's impossible to refuel a ship that has gone CR while landed on a planet's surface using traditional SOP.

PC Planetary Rescues - Horizons Not Required

The safest way to perform planetary rescues is to have the client log in to a 1.5 6 version of the game (non-Horizons version), which will give them the option to teleport into orbit.  Once there, the client rescue can be performed normally even by non-Horizons players.

Limpets cannot get under craft that are landed to refuel them, and if a client attempts to lift-off and runs out of fuel they will crash back into the planet as a CR.

titleSpecific Ship Issues

Right now, the Beluga is the only ship that is locked behind specific content, requiring Horizons to purchase. It's unconfirmed at this time what happens if you're in a Beluga and load the non-Horizons version of E:D. During Beta it was reported that if you logged out while in a Beluga, then logged into non-Horizons you'd reload in a sidewinder but with a 100% refund of credits from the Beluga. Be careful for any rescues involving a Beluga on/near a planet surface until this can be confirmed.

Xbox Planetary Rescues

On Xbox, there is no way to load the non-Horizons version of the game.  It has been tested unsuccessfully, so a different process is required.  It is possible if the client has enough o2 remaining to locate them on a planet and to manually flip them over using another ship, allowing fuel limpets to connect and transfer fuel.  Gather as much information from the client about their location on the planet prior to having them log in for a visual location fix (unless they have a screenshot of their location).  Once the location is determined, the rats should fly as close as possible to the last known location and prepare for the rescue.
